Bridal Garters

 

 

The bridal  garter has become a traditional part of the bride's wedding outfit. 

 

We have luxury handmade bridal garters and also a range of inexpensive garters for the bride on a budget or  who wishes to follow the tradition of the groom throwing the garter to the male guests.

 

 

So why does the Bride wear a garter?  There are two possible explanations from the distant past.  Traditionally it was thought that it was lucky to have a piece of the bride's dress as a keepsake, but obviously this was not very popular with the bride, as weddings dresses as such were unknown and the dress she married in would probably be her best dress for years to come!  The other explanation is that the groom removing his bride's stocking was symbolic of deflowering and throwing the garter to his male friends showed that they would be the next to marry.
